A Game Of Thrones Star Thinks The Show Is All ‘T*ts And Dragons’

This latest bit of Game of Thrones news taught us two things: Ian McShane apparently only watched the Khaleesi parts, and don’t ask about American Gods.

Ian McShane is a British actor that has a long and storied career in films and television. He’s been in everything from Deadwood to Pirates of the Caribbean, and he’s set to star in American Gods as Mr. Wednesday.

But whatever you do, don’t ask him about Game of Thrones.

McShane, who played Brother Ray on the show, made The Independent find this out the hard way. He made the news when he dropped the spoiler about a “beloved character” returning, and that character turned out to be The Hound. When asked to explain himself, the response was…well…

"“I was accused of giving the plot away, but I just think get a f**king life. It’s only tits and dragons. The show is huge but some fans seem to identify with it (too closely). You want to say, ‘Have you thought about your lifestyle? Maybe you should get out a little more.’”"

Really — couldn’t he have just said, “Don’t ask me about Game of Thrones spoilers?”

In fairness, he’s not the first actor from a show to tell the more devoted fans off. Back in the 1980’s, William Shatner went on Saturday Night Live to say something rather similar to obsessed Trekkies.

On one hand, this is rather funny — after all, people shouldn’t be so obsessed with a show that it dominates their life. There’s few things worse in the world than a toxic fandom. On the other, certainly, there are better words he could have chosen than “t*ts and dragons.” It IS a little sexist. (Okay, it’s a LOT sexist.)
