Ben Affleck’s highly anticipated The Batman has a new director, again. The biggest question DCEU fans have is why can’t they keep their directors.
It looks as if The Batman movie is having some major issues. We already thought The Batman had a writer-director in Ben Affleck, but apparently, that’s not the case, as he quit out of the blue a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, no real explanation was given for the change other than it was “Affleck’s decision.”
Behind the scenes, Warner Bros. worked to find a replacement. After a couple of false starts, word is now that taking over for Affleck is director Matt Reeves. Affleck took to Twitter last night to congratulate him and welcome him to the team. Reeves is best known for directing Cloverfield (2008) and most recently Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).
One can assume Reeves vision for The Batman will be dark. (Also rainy.)
Let’s talk about the larger problem with DCEU. Why are the writers and directors of the films quitting? The Flash movie has already gone through several writers and directors. The Batman had gone through similar problems before it settled on Ben Affleck, only to unsettle on him afterwards. The question has to be asked, what is going on over there?

Lack of leadership has become a recurring theme when it comes to DC Extended Universe films. Is there anyone in charge making sure that these movies meet their deadlines and keep talent? Hopefully, someone will step in and rectify this problem because it will only compound over time.
I’m just happy knowing the Wonder Woman movie has already been made and wasn’t plagued with all these problems. I’m sure DCEU or Warner Bros. will eventually rectify the problem, but fans should brace themselves for later than anticipated premiere dates and lackluster movie.
