Selina Meyer – Veep

Unfortunately, Selina Meyer might be the closest thing we have to a female president in the near future, but if we have to settle, she’s not too shabby. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss brought to life one of the funniest female politicians in TV history.

You won’t find Selina Meyer sitting demurely behind her desk, nodding complacently at her male colleague. It’s more like spewing expletives and demanding everyone not be a moron. She may not be the most effective or level-headed politician (although that doesn’t seem to be a requisite criteria anymore), but she certainly knows how to command a room.

Selina has swagger, and she’s not afraid to insert herself into any situation. Her entitlement may not be necessarily earned outright, but she’s determined to fake it until she makes it. Suffering one embarrassing setback after another, she will not be daunted. Even when it seems she should take a knee and let her political career rest, she refuses to be defeated by the bureaucratic male political machine.

While she’s busting balls, she never forgets her own needs as a woman. She’s unafraid to indulger her own vanity with eye surgery or satisfy her sexual needs by taking a lover. Selina might be a terrible person at heart, but she’s our favorite terrible person because she is so fearless about her nastiness.
