Lisa Simpson – The Simpsons
As a middle sister, Lisa Simpson has to fight to shine through the shadow of her naughty older brother, Bart and her cute little sister, Maggie. She established an identity of her own as the level-headed intellectual with a mind for feminism, diversity, and equanimity. She quickly became the voice of reason in a universe that was often ruled completely by the other characters’ ids.
Early on, Lisa demonstrated her sensitivity, and we saw her feel things even more deeply. She became a voice for little girls, and then grown up ladies, who feel compelled to speak up, but often feel invisible.
Lisa is often the moral compass of her family and town. She always stands up for what’s right and does so even when it’s hard to do it. Having the courage of her convictions is one of the most badass things about Lisa Simpson.
Feeling like you don’t fit in is a burden so many of us face as women and as humans, and Lisa is an excellent example of how to feel your feelings and then handle them with grace and aplomb. She’s an over thinker, a fighter, and an emotional being, and we couldn’t be happier to have her to look up to for all these thirty years.
