MOVIE SIGN! “Mystery Science Theater 3000” relaunches on Netflix April 14. Be there AND be square because this is going to be awesome
In the not-too-distant future, (next Sunday AD!) Mystery Science Theater 3000 will grace our screens with new episodes. And a brand new cast that’s ready to rock and roll!
Netflix’s official Twitter account even gave us a first look at the brand new actors, and some familiar old robotic faces…
It’s so exciting to see everything coming together. I mean, this was the Kickstarter that basically broke Kickstarter. Who doesn’t love Patton Oswalt? And as TV’s Son of TV’s Frank?! Fantastic! Felicia Day is nerdy enough to be the next Mad, and Jonah Ray comes from Nerdist, so why wouldn’t he be stuck on the Satellite of Love?
The only thing you should be slightly worried about is the voices of the ‘Bots. We’re all so used to Kevin Murphy as Tom Servo and Bill Corbett (or Trace Beaulieu, if you prefer) as Crow T. Robot. Because they’re such iconic characters, it’ll be a bit of an adjustment.
However, their voices have changed before (Josh Weinstein did Servo in the first season; Beaulieu and Corbett switched off just over halfway through the series). Now it’s Baron Vaughn as Servo and Hampton Yount as Crow. I’m partial to Baron Vaughn as he has one of my favorite comedy skits that I believe everyone can agree with (slight bad language warning):
Basically what we’re saying is don’t write off this new relaunch of Mystery Science Theater 3000. All of the press reviews on Twitter have said it’s a breath of fresh air while also paying homage to everything that came before it.
After all, we need some riffing of horrible B-movies to keep us afloat nowadays.
