As we saw last week, all four contestants had their families members flown out for the occasion. They help to fill what is otherwise a smallish audience in the runway set room. All three judges showed up for work, along with a guest judge “actress and singer” Olivia Holt.

Izzy: I don’t really see the track and field uniforms. I see girly, fun frocks, that are bright colors and mix leather with cotton in interesting ways. I hate the pants with the bulging hips and the unnecessary train, but the rest of the collection is seriously solid, chic, and wearable. Kelly, for reasons I cannot fathom, loves the terrible balloon hipped pants. Christian is less sold on it. She is out fourth.

Hawwaa: The fuzzy overalls make me think of 90s raves. The colorful circus pieces make so much more sense when they build from outfit to outfit, and each has a tie back to what came before. In fact, of the four collections, I would say this collection is the most cohesive, and tells the clearest story, in color and design. Christian loves how she made the costume of the circus “fashion.” Aya realizes Hawwaa is not Juvenile. It’s about time. But she is out third.

Chelsea: Leathery sport. Unecessary cut outs. The red dress is fab. The see thru stuff is cheap and tawdry, but I don’t hate the blue sleeves on the cherry blossoms in context. And the finale gown is the most surprising work of the six. Kelly tries to make sense of the pieces, each idea of which Chelsea embraces with wide eyed happiness, proving that she had no clear concept of her own. Christian merely sniffs she shouldn’t do evening wear.

Chris: The black and white checked pants aren’t bad. The pieces part outfit is overdesigned. The zippered piece is from Khols. The shoulders are trying to elevate the collection. The jumpsuits are from a completely different collection. Christian doesn’t think they fit the New York vibe, but in general he and the other judges are very positive about the collection.

The judges sadly seem to dismiss Izzy early and often, and despite Aya’s figuring out Hawwaa isn’t juvenile, you can see she would still rather vote for anyone else. That leaves Chelsea’s leather pieces, which garner high praise, while the outfits where Chris pushed himself are clearly the favorites of the night–if only he had done that to the entire collection from the beginning. And that’s why he’s out in second place, and Chelsea takes the win.
