The 100 Season 4 Episode 4 “A Lie Guarded” Recap

The 100 came back this week with episode 4, “A Lie Guarded,” and it looks like a war is about to break out between clans.

Clarke learns leadership.

Hey Jaha! It looks like you got floated!

This episode of The 100 started off with a little humor. They floated Jaha. We definitely needed some smiles for what was to come later on though. Clarke, being the mom of the group, ruined the fun and told everyone to get back to work. She feels worthless at Arkadia as one group set out for Becca’s lab to try and make more night blood and another group goes off on a hunting trip (including Bellamy). Thunder begins rolling in and an alarm sounds, signaling everyone to go into the Ark. Jasper’s lagging behind though, refusing to go in. The “acid” rain starts falling and Jasper begins clutching his chest in pain. There goes a good one, we’re all thinking. But jokes on us because he’s kidding. Apparently Jasper thinks this whole “we’re going to die in2 months” is hysterical!

Monty and Jasper are in the ship, pulling pranks to wait out the rain. But Jasper finds the list of 100 people and things go south real quick. He finds out that neither him or Monty are on the list. Clarke walks in just in time to find them before Jasper runs over to the mic to tell everyone that only 100 people are being saved. The guards come in and Clarke, acting on the authority of the chancellor, sends him to be locked up.

Monty calls her out on her shit, saying that she’s not the Clarke he used to know. “Jasper’s right. You’re not God,” he says before announcing to the entire yard of Arkadia that Clarke has been lying and begins reading the list of the 100 that will be saved.

People begin questioning Clarke’s choices. She explains that the list had to be tailored to young females who can reproduce. But Harper wasn’t on there. “You could be a drain on medical records,” Clarke says. She says she’s not sick but Clarke comes back with, “not yet.” What happened to her dad that would make Harper get sick!?

Shockingly enough, Jaha saves the day. Never thought I’d say those words…

He grabs the list and makes it seem like he’s taking charge now. “You don’t like the list? Consider it shredded.” He explains that they’ll hold a lottery instead but in order to be considered, you need to show up for your assignments.

Jaha tells Clarke, “We have to give them something to fight for. We can’t just tell people they have no value.” Clarke responds, “That’s not what I said.”

"“That’s what they heard. The list was pragmatic but the people need to hear that they have a say in their fate.”"

Looks like Jaha is learning how to be a good leader, and looks like Clarke still has a few things to learn from him. She goes and lets Jasper out of jail.

Field trip.

A gang from Arkadia goes on a mission to Becca’s lab. Luna, Nyko, Raven, Emori, Murphy, Abby, Jackson, and a few other spares. Emori stops at a point on the beach explaining that mutants can’t cross this line- ALIE wouldn’t let them. But Murphy comes back with, “I never met a line I wouldn’t cross,” before grabbing her hand and crossing it with her. Before they can get even 10 feet into their 5 mile hike to the lab, drones show up and begin shooting at them. Raven can’t keep up with her leg so Murphy grabs her and helps. Bet ya feel bad for calling him a dick earlier in the episode, Raven. While Murphy’s helping Raven, Nyko’s protecting Luna and it’s not ending too well for him. He uses his body as a shield for her and dies in her arms. Luna can’t catch a break these days. Miller finally shoots the drone down before asking why the hell these drones are still in the sky. Good question, Miller.

They split up to cover more ground. Emori is oddly concerned about being on the island. “There are worse things on this island than drones. We’re safer at your bunker.” The bunker! I forgot about that little place. If it were up to me, I’d 100% go with Emori to that little bunker Murphy found himself in at the end of season 2. And then I’d stay there forever with her.

Anyway, they left Raven to fend for herself on the beach since her leg injury was slowing everyone down. She sees Luna heading toward the boat and takes off after her. “Luna, we need you,” she screams as Luna’s about to peace out. The two have a long, emotional moment where both attempt to understand the other. Luna wants to give up. Maybe everyone’s not meant to be saved. Raven wants to save the world. Props for Nadia Hilker and Lindsey Morgan for this scene.

Miller radios in and says that Jackson’s been hit but adding in “Luna’s a priority. Nothing’s more important than her.” Not sure what struck the nerve but Luna decides to stay and help. Raven has a plan because of course she does, she’s Raven Reyes. Luna needs to run and get the drone Miller shot down so Raven can hack into it and shut them all down. At the exact moment when Abby was about to get shot dead by a drone because she was being a good human and trying to save Jackson, the drone falls out of the sky. Raven, MY GIRL.

It’s not your blood that defines you. It’s your heart,” Raven tells Luna. Yay, girls helping girls!

They finally find Becca’s lab. Nice digs, my girl. Can we hide out here for the next five years? They still don’t know what the drones were protecting it from though so let’s just keep our eyes peeled, okay?

War between clans.

Over in Polis, Daddy Kane is having a sit down with Octavia, telling her not to go off on killing sprees anymore. You know, typical talks you would have with your dad. She claims that she’s doing this to keep Roan on the throne so Ice Nation doesn’t come for Skaikru. “Everyone’s guilty of something,” she tells Kane. He brings up Lincoln throwing some salt in the wound before telling Octavia that she’s gone rogue and she’s no longer part of his security detail.

An Ice Nation guard comes into the Trikru’s embassy and tells Kane that Roan wants to see him. Once in the throne room, Roan questions how far Clarke has come on saving the world. Before Kane can give him a solid answer, Echo comes in with Bellamy and another Skaikru guard who are tied up and apparently gave away all their secrets- specifically that they have a night blood. Good going, random Skaikru guard. So Echo slits his throat before saying “warriors don’t share their secrets.” Roan takes Kane hostage and declares war against Skaikru.

Octavia finds that Ice Nation has already attacked Trikru’s embassy. Indra set off to warn her people and Octavia sets off on Helios to warn hers. Echo chases after her and the two get into a nasty sword fight on the edge of cliff. Just when you think Octavia is about to take Echo down, Echo puts a sword right into her abdomen. Octavia loses her balance and falls off the cliff into the water. I’ll admit that I was scared for a minute before I realized there were way more scenes with Octavia in the season 4 trailer so there’s no way Octavia just died.

Roan and Echo go in to release Bellamy and Kane. They’re bringing them back to Arkadia so Ice Nation can claim Alpha Station as their shelter. “Octavia will get there first. She’ll warn them,” Bell says. Echo whips out Octavia’s broken sword and Roan claims, “She wouldn’t be taken alive.” Bellamy lets out a wail that I never want to hear from him ever again because it broke my heart into tiny pieces.

But of course, cut to Helios finding Octavia on a beach. She’s alive. A little banged up, but alive. She gets on his back saying, “take me home.” But what will she find once she gets there? And will Bellamy do something he regrets before he finds out she’s not actually dead?

Bless up, ya’ll. Episode 4- done and dusted.
