Best Picture: Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge is the true story of WWII hero Corporal Desmond Doss, played by Lead Actor nominee Andrew Garfield. Army medic Doss saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun during what is regarded as the bloodiest battle of WWII in Okinawa. Later, Doss as the first conscientious objector to ever earn the Congressional Medal of Honor.

The film, starring Garfield, Sam Worthington and Luke Bracey, was directed by Mel Gibson and written by Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight. It earned a score of 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and, according to the site, earned $66,723,703 in the box office.

Hacksaw Ridge has already won a whopping 17 awards this season:
