Warrick Dunn

Warrick Dunn is a retired NFL running back. He played for Florida State University, where graduated with a B.A. in information studies. Then, he went to to play for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers and the Atlanta Falcons.

He doesn’t dwell on his athletic achievements nowadays. His website barely mentions his football career. That’s because Warrick Dunn is an activist and philanthropist.

Dunn grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Tallahassee, Fla, Tampa, Fla. and Atlanta, Ga. His mom was a police officer in Baton Rouge. Armed robbers killed her in 1993, while she was helping a store owner walk the day’s earnings to the night deposit. Dunn was only 18. Every since, he’s been the head of his family and has worked as hard as possible to make the world a better place.

In 1997, he started Warrick Dunn Charities. This non-profit’s goal is to fight poverty and hunger and improving the lives of people in need. It supports both kids and single parents. They provide help with financial literacy, home ownership, scholarships, and education in health and wellness. Over the years, they

"awarded millions in home furnishings, food and other donations to single-parent families and children across the nation to combat poverty, hunger and ensure families have comfortable surroundings and basic necessities to improve their quality of life."

Warrick Dunn is also one of the founders of Athletes for Hope, and he started Homes for the Holidays. The latter works with Habitat for Humanity and has helped hundreds of families in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Tampa and Tallahasse.

At this point, his well-established charities can probably run themselves if he makes the next move and run for office. Georgia, Louisiana or Florida would do nicely.
