Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan is the owner of the Charlotte Hornets and was the shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls from 1984 through 1998. He was a legendary player for a legendary team playing at its peak. Jordan is also number 67 on FanSided’s Fandom 250.

Of course, he has a ton of awards for his accomplishments on the court. In addition, Barack Obama awarded him with a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. For years, Jordan has been visiting sick children as part of the Kids Wish Network and other organizations.

But until this past year, he was not outspoken politically. That all changed in July, 2016, when he wrote I Can No Longer Stay Silent.

"As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers. I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well."

In it, he announced his donation of 2 million dollars to International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Jordan stated,

"I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change… if we all work together, we can foster greater understanding, positive change and create a more peaceful world for ourselves, our children, our families and our communities."

Michael Jordan is a man who can build some badly needed bridges. Please run for office, Mike!
