As wonderful as it is to settle in to nearby comforts like coffee and friends and cats, humans have always had their eyes on the skies. I love the idea of a telescope monopoly piece–standing on three legs, pointed upward–as a symbol of science, discovery, and adventure. Just imagine it–doesn’t that piece look hopeful? There it sits, poised on Park Place, lens pointed to your ceiling, hopeful that something interesting will be found near your lighting fixtures.
Looking through old, retired Monopoly pieces, there are plenty of “war” related pieces and items from the home, but none that truly capture that venturesome spirit that people have for discovery. A telescope piece could capture that perfectly, as well as get younger folks playing the game thinking about things like telescopes and space. The more STEM, the better.
