The thimble is out, and for good reason, but we have ten new Monopoly pieces we’d much rather see that are much more in keeping with the times.
Yesterday, we learned that Hasbro is discontinuing yet another of the classic Monopoly pieces we’ve come to know through our child and adulthoods. The thimble is at last going the way of the iron and the man on the horse, disappearing into a day when such pursuits were far more commonplace. While I, for one, am pleased to see that items better relegated to my grandmother’s sewing box are on their way out of a item line-up intended for icons of modern culture.
The thimble disappeared without vote or fanfare and has left us wondering what will take its place on the Monopoly board for sets to come? Recently, the glorious cat piece won out over other inferior items such as a robot, a helicopter, and a diamond ring. So what should replace the thimble? I’ve come up with ten ideas for Monopoly pieces that would fit in as Monopoly pieces far better than the thimble…and yes, I (mostly) picked items that could stand on their own for an entire game (looking at you, Battleship).
