Jessica Jones and Luke Cage

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are probably the most intense relationship in the MCU. Their one-night stand turned into something else entirely. Something that eventually involved a lot of fighting, sexual tension and danger. Stars Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter have exceptional chemistry together. And Jessica and Luke have a lot in common. Both are damaged people, with plenty of secrets, emotional scars and trust issues. You almost can’t help but root for them to find some understanding and support with one another. But for the moment, it doesn’t look like that’ll be happening anytime soon.

In the world of comics, Luke and Jessica are one of the medium’s most stable couples. They’ve even gotten married and had a kid together. In the MCU TV universe, the status of their relationship appears more uncertain. Despite their sizzling connection in Jessica Jones, by the time Luke Cage rolls around, Luke seems pretty unattached. By the end of that series, he is romantically involved with Claire Temple, a character who first appeared on Daredevil. (And who briefly dated Matt Murdock.)

Given the laundry list of betryals and emotional sins between Luke and Jessica in the MCU, it makes a certain amount of sense that the two might need a break from one another. After all, Jessica was not only involved in the death of Lukes’ wife, Reva, she lied to him about it too. Then Luke got mind-controlled by Jessica’s nemesis Kilgrave, and she had to shoot him to save herself. So things didn’t really end on a great note between them. And in Luke Cage, Jessica only gets mentioned as Luke’s “rebound chick”, which doesn’t necessarily bode well for the future together. But anything can happen in The Defenders, right? Right?
