Leopold Fitz and Jemma Simmons

Fitz and Simmons are probably the most adorable couple in the MCU. They went from longtime friends and partners to admitting their (very, very obvious) love for each other. And they finally got together after three long seasons of near-misses, angst and tragedy. Fitz and Simmons suffered a great deal – both separately and together – to be part of the SHEILD team. They nearly died multiple times. They faced the betrayals of friends. And they struggled to live regular lives while dealing with the seemingly endless trauma caused by their jobs. Jemma survived being stranded on a barren alien planet. Fitz struggled to recover from the after effects of cerebral hypoxia. These two, no doubt, have the absolute worst luck. Many things kept popping up to keep them apart – including unfortunate accidents and other people.

On a show that frequently spotlights people with a wide variety of superpowered gifts or tactical skills, they’re relentlessly normal. Sure, they’re both brilliant scientists, but they’re also just human beings. And as such, they’re a lot more vulnerable, but they’re much more relatable as a result. They saved each other, countless times. And, no matter what they faced, neither ever gave up on the other, no matter what. (Fitz’s utter determination to find a way to track down where the Monolith sent Jemma? Whew.) And they put their relationship – whether it was their friendship or their romance – first, no matter what. As a result, their bond feels honest and real. And more than any other pairing on Agents of Shield, it feels as though these two really earned the right to be together.
