Star Trek Discovery is on its way to us but it still seems to be adding cast members to its line up. Now, it has a comedy spin.
Fan of 30 Rock and Star Trek and want to somehow bridge your love of the two together? Well now it’s easy! A new casting announcement for Star Trek Discovery came out casting Maulik Pancholy in the series. He will be playing the ship’s chief medical officer Dr. Nambue. No one is sure the extent of his role, whether he’ll be a fleeting character or more like a Bones type medical officer, but still, the casting is pretty amazing.
Pancholy’s casting closes out all the major officers in Discovery except for, of course, the captain. While we still wait for that casting announcement to surface, the show has added another admiral to the mix. Terry Serpico, from The Purge: Election Year is set to play Admiral Anderson.
Again, we don’t know the extent of their roles in the series and speculations are abound but really, we just want to see some amazing work out of Star Trek Discovery. With yesterday’s klingon debacle, many fans just want more concrete information about the new series.
The series is still slated to be released later this year and we know, at least, that filming is underway. It is just a little disheartening to see how much of this series has been plagued by switching show runners or things changing and being pushed back.
But with a cast like this, the show should be, at least, one of the great ones in the Star Trek television series. After all, it is still Star Trek so you know we’re all going to love it no matter what actually happens with the show.
