7. The Opening Titles

Although Yuri on Ice keeps the same basic title sequence throughout its 12 episodes, that doesn’t mean that things can’t change. Above, you can see a comparison between the first episode and the eleventh. (Episode 12 does not have the traditional opening sequence, but instead plays the theme music over a recap of the events in the last competition.)

However, the above comparison shows that they do change over time, adding more and more color. There are plenty of arguments to make about what that might represent, but since the opening titles only feature the two Yuris and Victor, it seems safe to say that the additional color represents the emotional journeys all three characters take over the course of the season. Yes, even Yuri Plisetsky grows up a little along the way.

Of course, since the show’s mostly about Yuri Katsuki, though, it seems like the colors may also show how much he changes over the course of the show, slowly gaining more confidence in himself as well as in his relationship with Victor.

Additionally, Dean Fujioka’s “History Maker,” the theme song, actually has some wonderful lyrics about not stopping, setting some hearts on fire, and being, what else, born to make history along the way. For those who have seen the series, you know that those words end up being rather prescient.
