8. The Hopes of a Second Season
Right now, we don’t have any official confirmation that Yuri on Ice will return for another season. However, we have a couple of nice pieces of evidence. First, the season finale concludes with the above phrase: “See you NEXT LEVEL,” which implies that there will be a next level of the show, otherwise known as another season of figure skating drama.
After all, the first season ends with some very significant plot points that could easily constitute a second series.
Spoilers follow.
First, Victor himself said he would return to skating as well as continuing to coach Yuri. Additionally, the two of them exchanged rings, and it’s pretty clearly an engagement between the two of them. Finally, Yuri didn’t actually win the Grand Prix Final — he only took silver.
Spoilers end.
Second, fans on Tumblr have started to translate interviews from Mitsurō Kubo, the show’s writer. One has Kubo pointedly saying that she has plans to create a sequel series. The post was made in 2016, which means that we could see a second season of the show as soon as later this year. With the way that 2017 has been going, we honestly might need more than just 12 new episodes.
It makes rewatching both the subbed and dubbed versions of the first season that much more appealing.
