12 Reasons to Watch, Re-Watch, and Love Yuri on Ice
4. The Soundtrack
Both the opening and closing sequences of this anime have some songs that will absolutely get stuck in your head at least once. However, to ignore the music that plays for each skater’s programs during the episodes would be to ignore some amazing pieces, both vocal and instrumental.
The above track, “On Love: Agape” or “In Regards to Love: Agape” depending on your translation, is Yuri Plisetsky’s short program music, which is his program choreographed by Victor. Although you’ll likely be more familiar with “On Love: Eros,” which is Yuri Katsuki’s, sometimes you need something a little softer and more angelic. (Yes, grumpy Yurio gets the angel music. It’s a plot point.)
But aside from the two Yuris, everyone currently competing has two distinct pieces of their own. For example, Phichit skates to two songs from a pair of fictional movies that he loves. “Shall We Skate?” in particular tips you off to the fact that they’re references to The King and I. Meanwhile, Christophe Giacometti gets a song titled “Intoxicated,” and let’s just say that he participated in the previous year’s Grand Prix Final banquet in a very interesting way. In other words, the song fits him perfectly.
The soundtrack has pieces to suit basically any mood that you might be in, and it makes for a great accompaniment to pretty much anything. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself doing things with a flourish while you listen.
