Baby Mama
The proxy of the creator of Galentine’s Day herself, Amy Poehler, stars alongside Tina Fey in this utterly hilarious take on motherhood. Fey plays Kate, who is a baby-crazy uber-professional looking to have a kid no matter what it takes. Poehler plays Angie, who is a wacky semi-deadbeat in need of a new get-rich-quick scheme. Through a surrogacy service, run by the shockingly, uhhhh, seasoned yet perpetually pregnant Sigourney Weaver, the two are connected, and thus begins a beautiful friendship.
Lol jk not really. Poehler is an inconsiderate, uncivilized mess, Fey is an anal, controlling neat-freak, and they are, through a series of very spoilery and delightful coincidences, stuck living and figuring this whole pregnancy thing out together. Though the story is light and unbelievably fun, the real joy is getting to watch Amy and Tina play off each other. Every scene, you’re reminded that these are just two best pals who came up together, hit it big, and now get to make movies wherein they just hang out and goof around with their platonic life/art partner. And if THAT’S not the real spirit of Galentine’s Day, I truly don’t know what is.
Best lady moment: There is a birthing class scene in which the words “I think she wants me to rub olive oil on your taint” are muttered. That’s all.
