11 Worst Grammy Snubs of All Time
By April Jones
One Direction
Look, if ‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys can earn 15 Grammy nominations between them, surely One Direction deserves at least one nomination, right? Apparently not. The London-based boy band has yet to receive a single nomination for a Grammy award. Not for their Up All Night album, not for their hit singles like “What Makes You Beautiful,” not even for Best New Artist.
Even though Up All Night was the third best-selling album globally in 2012 and three singles turned out to be top ten hits, One Direction was completely overlooked by the Grammys that year. Their follow-up album, Take Me Home, was a top seller in over 30 countries and produced a single, “Live While We’re Young,” that held the highest one-week opening sales figures for a song by a non-US artist. Still no Grammy. Not even a nomination.
One Direction’s subsequent albums, Midnight Memories and Four, did even better commercially. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t good enough for the folks at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. They are, however, good enough for the Brit Awards, the American Music Awards, and awards from MTV networks from around the world.
