Nicki Minaj

Onika Tanya Maraj, better known as Nicki Minaj, is one of a handful of artists with Grammy nominations in the double digits without a single Grammy win to her name. She’s been nominated ten times since 2011 but still hasn’t made it to the winner’s circle.

She’s had some pretty stiff competition over the years. In 2012, Pink Friday was up against Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the subject of another snub since it was overlooked for Album of the Year. Three years later, “Anaconda” lost out to Kendrick Lamar’s “i” for Best Rap Song. Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly also beat Minaj’s The Pinkprint for Best Rap Album.

Nevertheless, she has persisted. Nicki Minaj has won several other major music awards, including six American Music Awards, eleven BET Awards, and three MTV Video Music Awards. Her albums have gone double-platinum, and she’s been called “the most influential rapper of all time” by the editor of The New York Times. Billboard’s Hot 100 has included her more than any other female rapper, and she received Billboard’s Women in Music “Rising Star” award back in 2011. Clearly, her star will continue to rise, with or without that Grammy.
