Victoria Season 1, Episode 5 Synopsis: Honeymoon’s Over
On this week’s episode of Victoria, it looks like the honeymoon period might just come to an end for Her Majesty and her new husband.
The title character of Victoria finally got married last week, and if you need a refresher on how everything went down, we have a recap ready for you. Essentially, we have our Victoria, we have her married to Albert, and domestic bliss is at hand, right?
Well, she’s still queen. He didn’t get the title he actually wanted. Those just count as small details, though, right?
Maybe. This week’s episode has the title of “The Queen’s Husband,” which sounds like it could work as a title in a pinch. Via PBS, here is the official synopsis:
"“At loose ends in a foreign land, Albert finds a noble cause. Victoria gets her way at court and resorts to a folk cure in the bedroom. Francatelli does Miss Skerrett a favor — for a price.”"
Let’s start with Albert, shall we? He has plenty of causes he has discussed, including helping the poor. We expect to see some resistance from someone somewhere about it, though.
Speaking of resistance, what on earth would Victoria have to fight about this time? We can guess why she’s trying folk cures, though. Her Majesty famously disliked being pregnant and having children, and it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise that she would attempt to avoid becoming pregnant so soon after the wedding. Remember, both of them really, really wanted to get married. (Also, vague historical spoilers follow, though we’re not sure that you can really spoil something from the 1800s: Victoria’s eldest daughter was born in 1840. Yes, the same year she got married.)
As for the downstairs drama, we’re not surprised that Francatelli will apparently continue to be terrible. What will he do for Miss Skerrett? Keep quiet, or something more?
