Alfie Allen Spills Game of Thrones Season 7 Secrets
By Ani Bundel
Alfie Allen has never been good at keeping his mouth shut about Game of Thrones spoilers, and now, in a new interview, he’s at it again.
Alfie Allen may not be the most famous of those whose careers have been helped enormously by getting cast in Game of Thrones. But the show keeps killing off characters left and right, and his own character Theon Greyjoy continues to survive. As such, the stock of the boy once only known for being the butt of sister Lily Allen’s pop song “Alfie” has risen.
This year, his career outside of Thrones has finally started heating up, including starring in the ensemble BBC 2 drama Close to the Enemy. He’s also made Variety‘s 10 Brits to Watch in 2017. The latter brought him in for a small snippet of interview (not even 100 words long!). And yet, in the space of that small blurb, Allen managed to spill quite a major plot point.
Check it out:
"Lucky for him, Allen has been more fortunate than the oft-exploited Theon Greyjoy, the character he’s played on “Game of Thrones” since it premiered in 2011. “It’s basically been my 20s,” he says. Though Allen is tight-lipped on two upcoming projects, he admits that Theon has moved on from his “Reek” years in the upcoming season of “Thrones.”"
Moved on from his “Reek” years, eh? Perhaps to those who only watch the show, this might just seem like the natural progression of Theon’s redemption, but to book readers is a huge signal.
To explain: Martin entitles his chapters via the name of the character who’s point of view we are seeing the action from. There’s no chapter numbers of anything like that. The opening chapters of A Game of Thrones, for instance, are entitled things like “Bran”, “Catelyn”, “Daenerys”, “Eddard”, “Jon”, etc, as we switch from character to character’s perspective. In Book 2, A Clash of Kings, “Theon” was a regular chapter heading. So when Theon disappeared and “Reek” began showing up as a chapter heading in Book 4’s A Feast For Crows, there was much speculation that “Reek” was actually Theon, a reveal that takes a while to reach. Since then, all of Theon’s chapter headings have been under the name of “Reek,” reminding us that in his own mind, Theon no longer exists.

But now we’ve crossed through that period, according to Allen. The chapter titles will one day soon, revert back to “Theon” as the character reasserts himself once again. But what does that mean for Season 7? That we’re still waiting to find out. Maybe Allen will have room to spill that in his next interview.
