This episode of Supergirl proved to tie up some lose ends but it also opened a few new doors. Read on while I explore some shocking moments from “The Martian Chronicles.”

Alex and her sisterly responsibility.

I love Alex Danvers. I’m sure that’s no surprise at this point if you’ve been following any of my Supergirl articles. But something irks me about her and has this entire season, and that’s her obsessive protection towards Kara. Maybe this is because I have my own older sister who feels overly protective and responsible for me, but either way, I want to see her storyline move past it. Maybe it’s also because I’m a huge Sanvers shipper and Alex’s relationships with Kara is getting in the middle of the time on my screen with Alex and Maggie. I DON’T KNOW. I just want Alex to stop blaming herself for any mess that Kara ends up in because it clearly affects her and I don’t want them to end up resenting one another.

Asexual Kara?

Hear me out with this. I will be Supercorp trash until the day that I die. I will ship Kara and Lena just like I do Alex and Maggie, but one type of sexuality is seriously lacking in mainstream media, and that’s asexuality, and I think Kara Danvers would be a perfect character for that.

Let me backtrack. When it was first announced that Supergirl would be a television show, I was excited but I was also suspicious. The comics of her were overly sexualized and as a character, she didn’t even add that much to the story. She was there to look pretty; and while I absolutely think Melissa Benoist is one of the most beautiful actresses in this universe, I hoped her character as Supergirl had a lot more story to tell. So, I watched it, and was pleasantly surprised with how it’s all come out.

They’ve tackled Alex Danvers story of realizing she’s into girls, and that was amazing and beautiful and perfect. But I feel like they could be setting Kara up for a sexuality story as well. (And I really hope they are).

While I’ve been wanting to either a. explore Kara’s asexuality or b. see Kara with Lena (because Katie McGrath, duh), the writers have been toying with a Kara/Mon-El ship. Something about that whole storyline wasn’t sitting well with me, and I couldn’t figure out why until last nights episode aired.

I feel like Alex is trying to guilt trip Kara into this whole Karamel thing, and I’m not really digging it. She’s comparing her own story with meeting Maggie and coming out to how Kara feels right now, and how it never works out with people. Whatever it is, Mon-El isn’t my favorite character and I hope Kara realizes that her worth isn’t dependent on a love interest.

Not all White Martians are bad.

So maybe we (and when I say we, I mean J’onn) were wrong about all White Martians being bad. They’re clearly not all bad and M’gann is one of the good ones. We knew that though. But this episode, she adventured back to Mars to find out if there were others. Will this come back to play an important role in the story? Probably. At least I hope so, because I really liked M’gann and I really liked her relationship with J’onn.
