4. Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz & João Gilberto (with Astrud Gilberto & Antonio Carlos Jobim) in 1965

Okay you know the song “the Girl from Ipanema”? This is the album that it came off of. What is bad about it all is that it beat out Funny Girl. Granted not all of you might be theater fans or have even seen the movie, but when you listen to “My Man” or “Funny Girl” or really any song from the musical, you’ll fall in love with it.

And even better, Barbra Streisand was nominated for her album People during this same Grammys ceremony. And she didn’t win either! Did the Grammy voters just hate this brilliant show and the woman who starred in it?

For those who don’t know what Funny Girl is, it is the story of Fanny Brice. She was one of the few Ziegfeld follies who wasn’t necessarily beautiful. She was funny and used her humor to get what she wanted and she ended up being coined the “Funny girl”.

The musical follows her love life and her rise to fame and is amazing. And the fact that both Barbra and the music were beat out for “The Girl from Ipanema” is insane. What were the Grammys doing back then? Awarding mediocre work? At least that is what is seems like.
