20 Celebrities Who Have Changed The Way We View Gender
Amanda Stenberg
“I don’t feel afraid to talk about racism or to talk about sexism or the gender binary, because I feel like it’s important and necessary and that importance outweighs any potential backlash that I can receive. I’m lucky because the most dangerous thing that could happen to me is that someone will say something mean on a computer screen miles away and so I feel like if that’s all that I’m facing then why would I not use my platform to talk about things?
But, I can get reluctant…for instance, I recently started talking more about gender and how I don’t always see myself as a girl or fitting into the constructs of womanhood and I label myself non-binary, which to me just means I don’t really subscribe to the idea of this gender binary that we’ve created. It doesn’t make sense to me that this entire human being would be completely different in all aspects of their life just because of how their body functions.”
Amanda Stenberg, mostly known for their role as Rue in “The Hunger Games” has no issue pushing the boundary for gender stereotyping. Stenberg recently took to Tumblr to address something that has been constantly in question. “I mean they/them makes me feel comfortable but I know that the media and the general populace that follows me will critique it/not understand which makes me feel sad and almost more uncomfortable.“
