20 Self Care Tips for Warriors of the Resistance
Establish times to not talk politics
Even if you’ve found yourself a community of like-minded and equally passionate individuals, whether it be from rallies, online communities, school or the like, establish time in the day to talk about something other than politics. Political awareness and group discussions are important, and no one is disputing that – but it’s important to take a break and find something else to talk about from time to time. Talk about last night’s baseball game, or the latest show that just premiered – but establish times to talk about something other than tense foreign relations and failing policies. If you’re feeling your heart racing, or like your chest is tight from stress, tell your friends or family members that you’d like to talk about something else.
Change the topic. It’s okay, we promise.
Especially in tumultuous times, it can feel almost wrong to enjoy yourself, to celebrate the good things – but it’s not, and now more than ever, talking about the small things is important. Plan a dinner with your best friends and talk about school, work or love lives. Schedule weekly nights in with your group to watch The Bachelor or Game of Thrones together. Whatever it is, enjoy conversations that have nothing to do with Trump – it’s good for the soul.
