Escape into a fictional world

If your style runs less along the film side and more on pages, there’s equally nothing wrong with escaping into a good book (or ten). Since the dawn of time, really, literature has kept us both aware and escaped – and everything in between. Find yourself a series to keep you preoccupied for months to come – A Song of Ice and Fire is sure to keep you busy (and well prepared for Game of Thrones), or a re-read of the Harry Potter series is always acceptable (and hey, talk about revolution inspiration). Another personal favorite, as far as fantasy goes, is The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss – soon to be a movie, as well.

Looking for less of a task but still a good read? Try anything by Neil Gaiman, like American Gods ahead of the TV series premiere. More of a classics fan? We’re partial to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird (we could all use Atticus Finch these days), or anything Maya Angelou. Want to stay woke? Try George Orwell’s 1984 or Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, novels we need to remember more than ever. Wherever your tastes lie, there’s nothing wrong with a get away from reality – even if it’s within the comforts of your own living room. Turn off your phone, and allow yourself some time to escape.
