Dylan McKay – Beverly Hills, 90210

Even though Dylan McKay was my dream boyfriend in the ’90s, my crush has not wane 20 years later. In fact, I think it might have intensified a little, and it doesn’t have anything to do with how well and ruggedly Luke Perry has aged. He was everything my boring little high school heart want and needed in a bad boy. He was dark and tortured, with a handful of vices and a smirk that brought all the California babes to the yard.

Maybe it’s the vintage Porsche, the eyebrow scar, or the giant trust fund, but Dylan McKay is still the kind of dreamboat that teenage girls dream about. That summer he was locked in the love triangle with Kelly and Brenda is pretty much responsible for my love for nighttime soaps – teen or otherwise.

Dylan was so good at romance and smoldering stares, he ruined any chance I may have had at a normal high school relationship. Once Dylan & Co. got a little older and the complexity of their drama heightened, he turned from broody to downright dejected. The death of a young bride and a heroin overdose will do that to you.  The more wretched his life became, the more compelled I was to take care of him. Because isn’t that what makes a good boyfriend? His potential to be “fixed?”
