The Puppy Bowl’s Kitty Half-time Show just finished, with a stellar performance from Kitty Gaga, the Chicago Rock cats, and an entourage of furry cuties.
You’re sure to see plenty of puppers in the appropriately-named Puppy Bowl, but that doesn’t mean Animal Planet skimps on the other adorable animal friends in their show. There’s the parrot tweeting the show, the hamster in a wheel running the scoreboard, the bunny cheerleaders, and most notably, the Kitty Half-time Show. The show just wrapped up, featuring a wonderful (and far too brief) performance from Kitty Gaga and the Chicago Rock Cats.
The Chicago Rock Cats opened the half-time show as three adult cats made vague motions similar to strumming their purple guitars, hitting drums, and playing piano. I don’t know how much work Animal Planet had to put in to get those cats to look like they were playing instruments, but it was unfortunately the least-interesting part of the show as these bemused animals batted at the strings, sticks, and keys. Much better was Kitty Gaga, who meowed out her signature song, PUParazzi while dancing in a meat suit–which was vegan, of course.
But we’re not watching for them. We’re totally watching for the dancers, a bundle of adorable kittens in glow collars running about and playing with toy butterflies, bubbles, feather toys, and streamers while the lights shine in rainbow colors around them. We got a closer look at one of them: Cocoa, a Himalayan tabby cat is an adventurous little baby who loves to explore and climb, but can be very vocal, especially when stuck.
All of these kittens hail from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA, in New York City, where many have already been adopted. The grand finale of the kitten bowl wasn’t Kitty Gaga’s performance, but watching these precious babies go home with their forever owners to be loved and cared for.

That finale is a heartfelt reminder that adoption is at the core of the Puppy Bowl. All the dogs and cats shown are available for adoption from their various shelters. Even if you’re not near one of the listed shelters, if you’re after a furry friend of your own, please consider adopting a friend instead of purchasing one. Rescue dogs and cats can make some of the best friends in the world.
