Victoria Season 1, Episode 4 Synopsis: Prematurely Cold Feet

Now halfway through the first season of Victoria, it looks like there may be some trouble in paradise for the queen and Albert.

The third episode of Victoria ended on a wonderful note. Not only did Victoria manage to propose to Albert, the two of them kissed, he picked her up, and all seemed happy and romantic. (If you need a reminder, we have a recap ready and waiting for you on “The Clockwork Prince“.)

Unfortunately, we are only midway through this season. Since that’s so, there has to be some drama and conflict, and the two lovebirds’ situation has plenty of potential for both. Enter this week’s episode, dubbed “An Ordinary Woman”. Doesn’t that bode well?

Via TVGuide, here’s a synopsis:

"“Second thoughts and other complications accent Victoria and Albert’s potential marriage, including whether the queen should promise to obey the foreign prince.”"

That explains the title quite well, doesn’t it? After all, her position has already ensured that even her proposal must be unconventional. Promising to obey Albert would make things more traditional. However, that would force Victoria to divide her personal and public lives. Basically, a wedding vow is now a question of state. It would also drag us into something similar to what The Crown mused over in its first season.

Additionally, it seems wise to keep in mind that they’re quite young. She proposed to him very quickly, and we’ve seen that Albert likes to think things over and contemplate. He may have wanted to kiss her at the end of last week’s episode. However, passion can run cold. Meanwhile, she didn’t like him all that much when he first arrived.

We’ll see how the two handle things this episode.
