22. No Doubt and Sting

No Doubt is definitely a band that can perform and this Super Bowl performance from 2003 is no different. The band is made up of musicians Tom Dumont, Adrian Young, Tony Kanal, and, of course, Gwen Stefani.

With hits like “Just a Girl”, “Don’t Speak” and countless others, No Doubt defined the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s with their sound. Looking back on this performance, it was pretty awesome that the Super Bowl halftime performance started with a female empowerment song. While some might not see that song as such but it really is just a woman singing about getting to the point where she just can’t take it anymore.

But No Doubt wasn’t the only band to take the stage that day. Sting also sang “Message in a Bottle” with Gwen Stefani. For two people with such unique voices, it really worked and was an awesome duet to listen to.

And while the performance was cool, that was pretty much it. It was just 6 minutes of No Doubt singing and then Sting singing and then Gwen singing with Sting before it ended. And after the performances we have nowadays, this one just doesn’t compare to something that you’d see at the Super Bowl now.
