Here are 25 of the Best Super Bowl Half Time Performances Ever
12. U2
Well, if it wasn’t strange it wouldn’t be U2. But the performance started with all the people who died in September 11th, 2001. Now, remember, this Super Bowl was 2002. The first minute I watched it, I was like “this is a weird way to start it” but if you think about what happened that previous September, it is really moving.
They sang “Where the Streets Have No Name” and honestly, U2 is great. Maybe it is because I’ve listened to the entirety of “U Talkin’ U2 to Me” but it makes you appreciate the mastery of Bono. He is a performer through and through and is great to watch live.
So the performance was touching and brilliant and did everything you’d expect a U2 halftime performance to do. Really, I want them to do another one. They have such an extensive library of songs that it could probably fill multiple halftime shows and we would never hear the same song.
It’s just fun to watch U2 do their thing. They don’t need a spectacle, they just need their music and Bono wearing sunglasses when it is very clearly night outside and we’re all on board with whatever they’d sing.
