Lady Gaga makes millions on tour but won’t make a dime for her Super Bowl Halftime performance. Turns out, there’s a really logical reason why.

Lady Gaga has been taking her performance at the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show very seriously. She has been talking about it non-stop on all of her social media platforms.

Oh, and she even built a dancefloor for her backyard dance rehearsals.

So clearly, Gaga is excited about this performance. And it’s a big deal. The Super Bowl Halftime show is one of the biggest events an artist can perform at. So that’s why we were a little shocked to find out that Lady Gaga won’t be paid any money for the performance. Not a penny.

Now before you Monsters become…well, monsters, this isn’t new. In fact, performers are never paid to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show. Why? Mostly because they don’t need to be. Artists want to perform at the show because it’s been shown to increase music sales post-performance. At one point the NFL even considered asking artists to pay to perform. That’s how many people want the honor of the chance to perform at the Super Bowl. Millions and millions of people will see your performance. Potentially, as in Lady Gaga’s case, millions of potential new fans. Especially since Gaga will likely release dates for a new tour shortly after her performance.

Lady Gaga is known for putting on a real show at her performances–complete with stunning costumes and intense choreography. So the opportunity to show off in front of a new and bigger audience is one she wouldn’t pass up.
