The 100 Season 4 Episode 1 “Echoes” Recap

The 100 hiatus is finally over but their problems are just getting started as we found out last night during season 4’s premier.

We didn’t survive this long just to let a little radiation take us out.

Lol. Think again, Bellamy.

The episode kicks off with Octavia reuniting with Indra and letting her know that both ALIE and Pike are dead and gone. We then move to Clarke and Bellamy discussing what happens next, now that they know the world is ending. Clarke, of course, wants to tell everyone and fix it right away. Bellamy has another way of approaching the problem- take a little break from saving people, head back home, and figure it out later. Clarke thanks Bellamy for keeping her alive before they get interrupted by a woman trying to wake up her husband, who is still assuming the position of “City of Light worshipper.” He was one of the many killed by Lexa during her badass ninja moves saving Clarke. The crying woman realizes who Clarke is- the mighty Wanheda, telling her, “you did this.

Nothing like a little pain to remind you you’re alive.

Cut to our squad back at the Ark- Monty, Harper, Jasper, and Raven. They’ve got some tunes going, they’re drinking (okay, mainly Jasper is drinking), and Raven, of course, is still working away on her computer. She kicks everyone out so she can fix the radio and Jasper swipes someone’s gun- that can’t be good. Once they’re gone and Raven doesn’t have to put on a brave face anymore, she clutches her leg in pain. “Nothing like a little pain to remind you you’re alive,” right?

Harper and Monty go directly to the bedroom because why the hell not. Jasper’s PTSD has gotten the best of him and he sets the stage to shoot himself. Before he can do it, Monty interrupts him. Raven has news and fills them all in about the radiation.

What have I done?

Back in Polis, we finally see Kane, Abby, and Jaha’s reaction to this mess. Jaha blames himself, as he damn well should. Kane is realizing that the grounders blame Skaikru for the chip. Jaha takes off to help someone move a body while Abby and Kane meet up with Clarke and Bellamy. They decide that it’s not safe to stay in Polis. But before they can head out, Raven radios in. After exchanging a few “glad you’re okay’s,” Clarke starts to fill her in on the world melting. They get interrupted by someone yelling for a healer. Of course, Abby and Clarke are quick to step up. Turns out, it’s Roan that needs a healer. Surprise, he survived the gunshot wound!

Echo isn’t having it though and puts a knife to Clarke’s throat before she can touch him. She lets her go because Clarke did save everyone from the City of Light. Instead, Echo locks up Skaikru until she decides what to do with them.

Wait… Skaikru’s Sky Ripper?

Indra informs our Skaikru that a thousand Ice Nation warriors were in Polis at the time. Bad news for us as Ice Nation isn’t too keen on the Sky folk right now. They need to figure out a plan but first, Clarke needs to break the news about the nuclear doomsday that’s coming.

Queue Jaha carrying in the body of the commander to where a healer is working on Roan. A guard announces that Skaikru us surrendering so Echo, along with her men, leave to go hear what they have to say. Jaha is returned to Skaikru and we hear him say, “It worked. She’s in.” Scene switches to Octavia cutting herself out of the body bag and slaying three guards within seconds. When we first heard that Octavia was going to be an assassin, I was not expecting it to be for Skaikru. But I’m here for it.

Bellamy is trying to sweet talk Echo into honoring Lexa’s coalition, but it isn’t working. She puts a knife at his throat and Bellamy and Kane are putting all of their trust in Clarke and Abby, who are trying to save Roan. Just before Echo can bash in Clarke’s brain, Roan and his 27 abs wake up.

I loved her, mom.

Clarke and the captured Skaikru are locked up so Roan can decide what to do with them. Abby notices that Clarke has a disheartening look on her face as she’s fiddling around with the flame, aka. Lexa. Abby says that she “knows that look,” speaking of Jake, I can only assume. She slides over and Clarke breaks down saying, “I loved her, mom.” Abby responds, “I know.” THE MOMENT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR PEOPLE. We needed that emotional connection between Abby and Clarke and no matter where this season goes next, at least we have that!

Before that moment can go on, Clarke gets yanked from the cell and taken to Roan. She tries to convince him that they need to work together to fight off the end of the world. He won’t buy it. But  then she offers him the flame.

He takes the flame and he announces to his army that he honors Lexa’s coalition, including Skaikru.

An attack against Skaikru is an attack against us all.”

And with that, another season of The 100 begins…
