7. Garlic Pepperoni Knots

Ever since I tried some amazingly delicious pepperoni garlic knots cooked in a cast iron skillet at Mac and Bob’s in Roanoke, I have lusted after a cast iron skillet and a good recipe. Last year I got the skillet and then I found the right recipe. This one is slightly easier because it uses premade pizza dough that is often found in the deli or prepared food section of grocery stores. Easy Pull-Apart Pepperoni Garlic Knots comes to us from Serious Eats’ J. Kenji López-Alt.

This is a recipe where you could swap out the pepperoni for other pizza friendly ingredients like cooked Italian sausage or diced mushrooms that have been sautéed long enough to remove most of the moisture. I also would consider sprinkling some mozzarella on top in the last few minutes of baking, though that would soften the knots’ crust on the top. How could you go wrong with adding some gooey cheese though?

Of course there’s the easy way and there’s the hard way. I actually managed to grow my own sourdough starter last year and used King Arthur Flour’s sourdough pizza crust recipe for this. If you ever get a chance to get or make your own sourdough starter, it’s definitely worth the added effort.
