11. Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is a classic snack item because Cookie Monster would want you to have cookies at your Super Bowl party. A snack festival of this magnitude is your excuse to finally try that Jacques Torres Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. Coming from the famous Mr. Chocolate in New York City, this recipe gets raves from many people.
This does use non-standard flours though. You’ll need to procure both cake and bread flour. The recipe also calls for chunks of chocolate, but my thrifty self can confirm that normal chocolate chips do not destroy the goodness of these cookies.
The biggest trick of these things is that the dough requires chilling. For at least one whole day, though they are better if they chill for the longer amount of time of 3 days. Please note that if you use cookie scoops for these, you’ll want to let the dough warm up a bit out of the fridge. A cold cookie dough with a lot of butter to stiffen it can really do a number and destroy the release mechanism on your favorite scooper.
The extra time in the fridge allows for better hydration of the flours and gives you that rounded looking cookie that you previously only saw in commercially made cookies. It also makes for improved texture, taking chewiness to new heights. Totally worth the wait and the bother.
