If you’ve watched the Great British Bake Off, you’ll know exactly what category this thing falls under. It’s a Super Bowl snack showstopper. I used the recipe from King Arthur Flour for Everything-Cheddar Pastry Twist, but altered the filling.

I went with an Italian version with Parmesan, Italian herbs, garlic, and sun-dried tomatoes. Whatever you go with for filling make sure that it is on the drier side because pastry dough doesn’t like to be damp and don’t use ingredients that will easily burn. The dough came together easily, but it did have a little trouble sticking together in parts. Don’t look at the amount of butter and divide it among the number of servings, just ignore that number and forge onward.

Budget more time than you think you need for the cutting and twisting of your sun’s rays. It’s easy, but the process is definitely time consuming. You’ll worry about whether or not you’ve twisted enough, but even managing two turns will look spectacular. The egg wash is difficult to brush on the twisted parts, but it will be fine even with missed spots.

While this is completely fine on its own, you can gild the lily by serving it with a dip. For my Italian version I went with a rosemary and lemon white bean dip. If you skip the everything topping, a Mexican style dip like queso or salsa would work well.
