For those who haven’t experienced La La Land yet, the movie is filled to the brim with beautiful cinematography but it also has some amazing references.

Love a good film reference? Well then you should love La La Land. The movie stealing all the Oscars buzz is full of classic references. From Singing In the Rain to Grease, the musical pays homage to all the greats in the best way. Here’s a compilation, with a hat tip to Mashable:

For those who have yet to see this brilliant film, La La Land is a callback to the movie musicals of old. It reminds us of things like those old musicals that you just don’t see now-a-days. But with the film, it just works.

It follows Mia, an aspiring actress, and Sebastian, a jazz musician. The two fall in love from a whole bunch of different circumstances and the movie tracks their relationship through one year. The best part about it is that it doesn’t end like you think it is going to.

Movies are pretty predictable these days. You know what you’re going to get as soon as it starts. With La La Land, everyone thought they had it figured out. And then it gets to the final sequence of the movie and it truly takes your breath away.

But don’t forget about the amazing score and cast recording. “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” shows Emma Stone at her finest and there is no wonder why “City of Stars” is up for an Oscar. The whole movie is just amazing.
