Tunes for Tuesday: Missy Elliot Back in Hip-Hop Scene & Better Than Ever

After taking a little time off from the industry she claimed her fame in, Missy Elliot is back in the scene with the release of a new song.

Debuting in the early 90s, Missy Elliot rose to hip-hop fame with the release of her hit songs. Once the mid-2000s rolled around, she took a back seat from the world we all knew her from. It’s been ten years she she released any new content, but that all recently changed. She just dropped the video for her newest song “I’m Better” ft. Lamb, so I guess this is her comeback.

Check out the video here:

And she’s proud as ever about how it turned out.

She hasn’t been completely out of the music scene since the mid-2000s. She’s made some notable appearances in the entertainment industry including a 2015 Super Bowl XLIX halftime show performance with Katy Perry where they did a medley of “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control,” a collaboration with Pharrell for “WTF (Where They From)”, and a cameo in a Marc Jacobs campaign video for Fall ’16. But this new stuff is hers and hers alone.

So, you’ll definitely want to add this track in that hip-hop/R&B classics playlist you’ve probably got going on Spotify. You know, the one that probably has some Usher and a little Boyz II Men. Don’t act like you don’t have one of those playlists. Now you can happily add another Missy Elliot song to it.

Missy Elliot is also currently working on a documentary that’s recalling her rise to fame in the music world. That’ll be released sometime in 2017, but luckily until then, we have this new song to tie us over.
