Supergirl Recap: Episode 210, “We Can Be Heroes”
Supergirl returned to defeat an old enemy on Monday night but what happened at the end of the fight will completely shock you.
If you have been following any of my writing and/or Supergirl recaps then you obviously know that I’m a huge Sanvers shipper. Like, huge. Like, I’d be happy with an entire show strictly dedicated to Sanvers. So when I tell you that last night’s episode was possibly one of my favorites even though it didn’t even have much Sanvers in it, then you better listen, because something incredible is about to happen.
Okay, there was some Sanvers, so let’s talk about them first.
Be still my heart.
The thing I loved about this week’s Supergirl and the scenes between Maggie Sawyer and Alex Danvers are that they were nothing special. The scenes didn’t need to be in the episode for the plot to move forward- only for the relationship to move forward, only so we could see the cute little moments between two women who are falling for one another. Honestly, when else do you get to see that on TV?
Here, have a compilation of all the Sanvers scenes just in case you want to watch them a few dozen times (or is that just me?):
So, what I’m trying to say here is that there was absolutely no development in the Sanvers story line and I absolutely loved it. Moving on…
So you want to be a Superhero…
There’s a book for that, right? Superhero 101? Superhero Skills For Dummies?
No? Well, there should be, because Kara has resorted to Superhero kindergarten to train Mon-El on the ins and outs of saving civilization, and to nobodies surprise, Mon-El hasn’t mastered it yet. But disaster strikes and Livewire goes missing from her cell in prison so Kara determines he’s probably ready for his first mission.
James doesn’t agree. “I think he’s a fun guy, but he’s just not a hero,” he mentions to Kara. James is toying with the idea of telling her about his double life but they get interrupted when they receive an alert that Livewire is attacking to NCPD.
When they arrive to the scene, they realize that it’s not actually Livewire but the two people who “broke her out” who now have her powers. Seems a little suspicious to me. Livewire or not, they’re still causing damage and Supergirl and Mon-El still need to save the police department. Mon-El disobeys Supergirl’s orders, protecting her over the civilians, leading to two people getting hurt- a police officer, and the Guardian (because he just won’t leave Supergirl alone). Guess that clears up how James is going to yell Kara, right? The Livewire wannabes escape and James is left revealed.
Once they’re all back at the DEO, Kara scolds James and Winn (and everyone else) for not telling her. She says that he can’t fight crime because he’ll get himself hurt. He doesn’t listen…

Boys will be stupid.
They figure out that Livewire didn’t escape the prison but was taken by people. A mad scientist, in fact, who is channeling her electric-powers into “clones” to create an army to sell to other nations. Winn locates where this is taking place and does what any smart guy would do… tells Guardian instead of Supergirl. Mon-El overhears their conversation and follows the two to where Livewire is being held.
Shockingly enough, the guys need Supergirl’s help. She shows up and actually teams up with Livewire to take on the mad scientist and the clones. Livewire tells her to leave the boys at home next time. Agreed. Supergirl lets Livewire go and hopefully that’s the last time we’ll see her as a villain. If she ever wanted to come back and team up to fight evil, I’d be happy with that though.
Side stories.
While Supergirl was saving three grown men plus an entire city, J’onn was dealing with his own internal battle.
Obviously, J’onn resents M’Gann for what her people did to his back on his planet, but after M’Gann has some sort of psychic attack, she needs him to save her. J’onn struggles with this decision all episode but finally helps at the end. They share minds and he finds out that she was actually trying to protect his people back on his planet. J’onn tells M’Gann that it’s time to come home and she wakes up soon after that.
Then we have the story of Mon-El falling for Kara. He admits that he has feelings for her at the end of the episode but Kara is rendered speechless. He high-fives her and leaves. Talk about awkward.

All in all, it was a solid episode that had multiple interesting stories to follow. But I have feeling this won’t be the last we see of Livewire.
