12. Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren is an actress we all aspire to be. She is poised and brilliant and one of the best we have around. So if she graced us with her version of the Time Lord, the world would just honestly be a better place.

She is, after all, one of the main campaigners for the “the Doctor should be a woman” pleas. Her and John Barrowman said so back in 2013 before Peter Capaldi was ever announced as taking over on the show.
So why not have the first woman Doctor be Helen? She clearly has a stake in the show with her desire to see a woman take it over. And Helen can definitely carry the role.
Part of the problem with people against the Doctor being a woman is that they just don’t want to lose one of the best roles on television. Truly. As if white men didn’t have enough already, they also want to make sure they cling to a role that is designed to change with the times.
But if we forget about those against the change in the gender of the Doctor, Helen is just a great choice all around. And she’d probably say yes in two heartbeats.
