The star-studded upcoming Ocean’s 8 gives us a first official glimpse at its fierce female cast.
In case you weren’t aware of perhaps the only thing worth holding on and looking toward the future for, there is an impending Ocean’s film to add to the franchise, and it is an entirely female-comprised squad of 8. Directed by Gary Ross (Hunger Games, Pleasantville), this inevitably Bechdel-passing heist/action/comedy film has been getting better and better with each new casting announcement. And this morning, to give us all hope for a brighter, more inclusive future, the first official cast photo has been released. And it’s more badass than I ever could’ve imagined.
To accompany the photo with which I am now considering wallpapering my home, the film released some of its first real plot details, complete with character names and its extremely fabulous and cameo-promising setting.
"“The tide will turn as Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).”"
Though the film’s predecessors, Ocean’s Eleven through Thirteen, obviously feature bigger casts of core characters, there’s always the hope that some franchise favorites *cough Julia Roberts cough Catherine Zeta-Jones cough* will return to the screen when this hits theaters on June 8, 2018. If not to pile on the lady love, at least to account for the gender disparity of the first film having started off with 11 dudes and this one only giving us 8 ladies, but I guess art imitates life and we need to make sure we keep women’s progress at around 70% of men’s LOL JK WHO SAID THAT??

Aaaanyway, with just a singular photo and some minute facts, this film is already shaping up to be the best thing to happen in AT LEAST the next four years. And Cate Blanchett is playing a character named Lou, so I think we’re all gonna be just fine.
