28. The Inventor’s Secret
This series from Andrea Cremer starts with an interesting premise. As explained in the first book’s description on Goodreads, which shares a name with the series, the American Revolution didn’t take place in this universe. Instead, the sun hasn’t set on the British Empire, and the Industrial Revolution has brought a very steampunk style world into being.
Our heroine is Charlotte, who lives and works on the very fringes of society, avoiding the Empire’s attempts to press her into service for the Machineworks, and then things start to turn when someone else arrives with some terrible secrets. With alternate history enjoying a bit of a renaissance on Amazon Video with The Man in the High Castle, it seems like it might be a good time for this series to get its time in the spotlight.
Besides, there’s a Floating City! How cool would it be to see it brought to life? You have to admit that that’s pretty cool. Also, pirates show up eventually. There’s even a revolution! It’s tough to say no to all these sorts of things, at least if you’re me.
Additionally, this series has already come to an end with The Turncoat’s Gambit, which dropped late last year.
