Warner Bros. Won’t Pay to Air a Justice League Trailer During the Super Bowl

With Super Bowl ratings trending low, Warner Bros. may decide to save its money and release new Justice League and Wonder Woman footage elsewhere.

The Super Bowl takes place in February between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. It used to be a big deal even for people who weren’t super into bowls and sports and the like because studios used the big event to unveil new trailers for movies and TV shows. However, this may no longer be the case.

In a new report from Deadline, Super Bowl ratings aren’t what they used to be. So now, studios have to pick and choose what ad space is worth paying for. Obviously, it costs a pretty penny to put your content in front of thousands and thousands of people.

And one studio, in particular, decided it may not be worth it to unleash new footage of their two biggest projects due for release this year. Of course, the company in question is Warner Bros. And the two projects? Wonder Woman (due for release in June) and Justice League (following in November).

Now, that seems like a really dumb move to make considering Warner Bros. and the DCEU are constantly taking hits. They need to reassure people that these movies are on track and not embarrassed to carry those logos, money be damned.

According to the report, “The network sold 30-second spots for an average of $5 million apiece, up from $4.8 million last year, Kantar Media estimates.” In addition, the Super Bowl ratings may be lower after a season that was almost 10% down in the ratings than the previous NFL season.

On the upside, Disney, Paramount, and Fox have all bought airtime, but “Warner Bros. is not in.”

But if you’re jonesing for Wonder Woman, you can still catch Gal Gadot in her Wix commercial, which will air during the Super Bowl and also features Jason Statham:
