Sexuality is non-news.

This is so critical to the show that I needed to add this. I didn’t start watching The 100 because of the fact that sexuality didn’t matter- I fell in love with the plot and the story and the characters. This was just a nice extra that I found out in season 2.

I think it all started when Lexa mentioned to Clarke about Costia, casually when Finn’s body was burning. At the time, I was binging the show on netflix and wasn’t involved with any social media aspect of it so I had no idea if people knew that Lexa would be into girls. So it certainly surprised me when I heard her talk about Costia.

We live in a world where this shouldn’t take anyone back, it shouldn’t matter. But I sat there, and I was taken back, and it mattered. Because I got to see this badass female leader who was also a lesbian, and that mattered.

From that moment, we then got to see Lexa and Clarke’s relationship bloom. We got the first lead bisexual on this network. We were introduced to the fact that Miller has a boyfriend. We saw Clarke and Niylah. This all matters to us, even if it doesn’t matter to the plot line of the show. Going into S4, I can only imagine that this continues and new relationships will be lit who represent more of the LGBT community.
