Sonequa Martin-Green On Sasha’s Fate in TWD After Star Trek Casting

Sonequa Martin-Green just scored the lead role on CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, but what does that mean for Sasha on AMC’s The Walking Dead?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m beyond happy to see Sonequa Martin-Green land the leading role for Star Trek. Especially because she will be the first African-American woman to head any Star Trek show or movies. So, round of applause to Martin-Green. But as a huge The Walking Dead fan, I only began to wonder what that meant for Sasha’s fate on AMC.

Luckily, Entertainment Weekly has an inside scoop from showrunner Scott M. Gimple. They asked if this new Star Trek gig will signify her end on The Walking Dead.

"“Sonequa Martin-Green can do anything. I’ve seen her battle a horde of walkers this year while simultaneously battling a stomach flu that would have had most people crying in the dirt. She can fulfill the duties of a Lieutenant Commander on a Constitution-class starship whilst battling walkers, Saviors, and whatever gets in Sasha’s way.  We’ve had to juggle before. I will certainly juggle for Star Trek any day of the week. Okay, maybe not on Sunday.”"

Sounds like good news, right? But do we trust it? The Walking Dead has a long list of characters they’ve killed off after the actor gets cast on a separate project. Jon Bernthal (Shane) was one of them, getting cast for Mob City while season 2 of TWD was airing. How about David Morrissey? He got cast in Line of Sight in 2014 and then the Governor was soon dead.

Martin-Green was quick to avoid the question when asked: “Well, I can’t say anything. I can say that the story is as impactful and powerful and dynamic as it always has been, and there’s nothing to worry about where that’s concerned.
