6. Diego and Cesar Chavez

Diego Luna had his first directorial debut with a film called Cesar Chavez. At the time, Diego admitted to not knowing much about the man until he started researching for the movie. Since, it has spoken openly about how he inspired him.

His son, Jerónimo, was born in Los Angeles so, as Diego puts in, he now has a Mexican-American in his family and Cesar’s story was important for him to tell. It’s not even just about the movie, but listening to Diego talk about Cesar’s accomplishment and how meeting with the Chavez family was inspires anyone listening to look into this man if you didn’t already know of his importance.

Chavez stood up for the rights of Mexican-American farm workers in California. Many look to his achievements with great honor and yet many do not even know his name. So this movie is extremely important in showing us all a story that they still don’t really teach us in school.

And it was brought to us by Diego Luna himself. He directed this tale and his dedication to getting the film just right and making sure Cesar was honored accordingly makes us love him just that little bit more.
