23. The Apology Song

In The Book of Life, Manolo refuses to kill the bull when he is bull fighting. It is a family tradition and yet he will not take on the legacy. He wants to be a musician and a lover of Maria. So he makes sure to keep to his morals even if that means being sent to the land of the forgotten for his stance on not killing the bull.

When he is faced with all the bulls of his family’s past, Manolo sings “The Apology Song” to defeat the beast. He apologizes for his family’s wrong doings and asks the bull to forgive so that love can truly live. If he wins, he can go back to Maria and love the woman he’s loved his entire life.

Again, it is Diego’s cute little voice singing and it is just so cute to listen to. He’s not the best singer out there but his dedication to singing in his movie really makes your affection for him grow. He tries so hard and that’s what really matters.

That and this scene is just really sweet. Manolo is a man of honor and he sticks to his beliefs until the very end. And you have to love him for that.
