18. She knows she’s not invincible

Like Arya once told Tywin Lannister, “Anyone can be killed.” Not only was she referring to him, but also herself. Arya is no dummy, she just has a very different outlook on the Known World than most of the people we meet. Though the audience may not be ready to see her go the way of her mom, dad, and brothers just yet, Arya remains clear on believing that anyone can indeed be killed.

Recall this scene from Season 6’s “No One.” The Waif endlessly pursues her through the Braavosi markets, having almost killed her by stabbing her in the gut. Arya flies into a frenzy of ‘flight’ mode, but is gravely wounded along the way. In a way, she knows it’s now or never to fight back against someone who is literally trying to snuff out her life. Arya prays to Death every day, so the inevitability of the big sleep may always be hanging over her head. It only makes sense that she’ll know when her time is up, but in the meantime, she’ll pull out all the stops if it insures her survival.

Being self-aware, especially at Arya’s age is often a positive trait. It’s nice to know she’s able to push her limits if she has to.
